Thank you to everyone who made the Daffodil show a success!
Hi DHSWP Members and Friends,
Bonnie and I would like to thank and show our appreciation to the members of the Daffodil & Hosta Society of Western Pennsylvania and others Friends for all of their help and hard work toward insuring a very successful 2017 Pittsburgh Daffodil Show on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Shady Side Academy in Fox Chapel. As usual the Pittsburgh Daffodil Show was held in conjunction with the Penn State Extension, Garden and Marketplace Sale and Symposium.
We had a very surprising number of Daffodils for this late in the season. Local exhibitors from Western Pennsylvania and several other Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia growers provided what was left from their gardens. Several knowledgeable exhibitors, aware that they might not have daffodils left by our Show date, preserved them in their refrigerators for as long as 3 weeks! The results were totally spectacular and startling that any flower can show this type of vigor and resiliency for such a long period.
Bonnie and I would like to thank the 6 American Daffodil Society Judges, the Clerks, who helped the Judges and Mark, who orchestrated the timely finish of judging the Show. Our Judges expertly judged our record 403 stems from 16 exhibitors. We would like to extend thanks to our members and friends (Dot, Ron, Megan, Susan, Gary, David, Matt, Laurie and her husband and son, Logan, John and Kate, Tom, Al, Alicia, Len and Judge Mitch Carney), who set-up and broke-down the Daffodil Show. All six wonderful Judges helped exhibitors with grooming suggestions. A special thanks goes to Sandy Stupar, Tricia Abrams, Laurie Kilkenny, Len Lehman and Alicia Perez for providing food that fed everyone for two days. They were super. Bobbi, Gary, Susan, Wendy and Len were fabulous on plant sales. Our experiment this year with growing and selling plants proved very profitable. Alan Peacock created the special judges gifts.
But without our exhibitors, Larry 34 Blue Ribbons, Mitch & Kate 19 Blue Ribbons, Rebecca 16, Bonnie 9, Barbara 7, Mark 5, Lyn 5, John 3, Matt 2, Darlene 2, Susan 2, Sandy 1, Megan 1, Leone 1, Drew 1, and Stephen 1, we would not have had a great 2017 Pittsburgh Daffodil Show.
Bonnie and I would like to thank all of you great people for “making” our Show the best yet. If I’ve forgotten anyone, I apologize.
